      • Anything! its my first time there, good guides? locations? flies? etc

      • I can’t help with guides or spots because I’ve never been to that area. I’m sure most of the classic bonefish (gotchas, crazy charlies, etc) patterns and colors (tan, pink, white) in sizes 2-8 will work.

My first bonefish trip … I tied a ton of flies, about a dozen each of 6 or 7 types. Wound up using a # 6 tan craft fur Charlie all week (same effin’ fly). Craft Fur was a new product back then. I used black bead-chain. Outfished by friend 2 to 1 … he used same fly, but with standard shiny bead-chain. IMO, bones don’t like too much flash. If you can make the fly look “crittery” they will hammer it. If the fish are spooky while wading, get lower !!
Even if your knees are on the sand, squat down lower until you almost can not see them
anymore … even with good glasses. My two cents.

    Good fishing to ya !!

    • Good info. I know what you mean about fly selection. I’m sure I won’t use more than a few patterns but I’d like to have all my options covered just in case. Better to have and not need than need and not have. I’m going with a big group of guys. Most of them have been bonefishing in the area we will be fishing, so I’m tying off their recommendations. I’d like to have a nice box full of bonefish flies for future trips as well. Plus, all of these flies will work for redfish here in Texas.
